Did people who did see it like it?
Yea none of this means its actually bad movie. Might be worth looking into, who cares if it was poorly marketed as a robin hood film.
All I heard about it was Andrew Garfield promoting it, saying it’s important for people to see and will hopefully inspire people who are feeling hopelessness in today’s world.
If it’s truly a film about a population “rising up” against their oligarch oppressors, I’m not shocked it was poorly advertised. The quicker it flops at the box office, the quicker Hollywood can bury it. Don’t want to give a struggling population dealing with similar circumstances any ideas…
Something with this much of a budget a theatrical release totally has Hollywood money behind it. Its not like a purposefully orchestrated tax write off flop either, those are bigger budgets (Madam Webb = tax write off plus tactic to keep Spidey IP)
Someone may want to bury the film with lack of advertising though. Or, yeah, its just a bad movie they dont want to throw money at propping it. I’ll try to see it in the next few weeks to decide myself.

The Robin Hood myth is so ancient it’s tied to demigods. There were Robins hooding after William th Conquer changed cow to beef. It’s a British archetype given name, right down to the bowmanship.

I heard this marketing is all studio push because they didn’t think people would want to watch a movie about peasants rising up against the wealthy.

I have seen the trailer for this twice, and I swear they changed the name of the movie from Plowman to The Uprising.

I thought that was The Death of Robin Hood. It’s about an aging Robin Hood who is tormented by his life of killing and robbing people and looking for forgiveness before he dies.
I thought that was a great movie, but it was marketed all wrong. I hope more people watch it. Jackman was fantastic.
Robin Hood has always been seen as a common-class hero, so a film where he regrets all the deeds he’s performed (and supposedly all the people he murdered along the way) is re-writing the hero as a villain looking for redemption for his evil deeds.

This is another movie I put on because I was bored but got sucked into it from the opening scene. I agree Jackman did a great job in the role.
It’s not a movie I’d recommend to the average person, as I’d call this Robin not quite a villain, but also not quite an anti-hero, but there have been some friends I’ve recommended this to.
Honestly, Little John was the character I was most conflicted about, because a lot of the unnecessary violence in this tale was centered around his actions, so it’s the most fleshed out bit we really got to see/hear directly. It makes perfect sense why he does what he does, but we also see the people he did it to did not deserve what happens. Robin at least admits most of his life was wrong, but a good number did deserve (according to him) what they got, keeping the story from erasing all his anti-hero bits.
