Romania
Note: I am not Romanian
The lyrics start with something like “Awaken from your graves and kill those barbaric tyrants”.
I get jealous every ANZAC day when they play the New Zealand national anthem. So good.
And they have their Mauri language right there too.
Team America. Fuck yeah!
Monaco and Italy both have really good ones
Azerbaijan anthem on lord of the rings.
Mecidiye march on star wars a close second.
East germany and the EU.
Both make me hopeful for the future eventhough i know what is coming!
One of the best anthems in one of the best scenes followed by one of the best deadpan jokes In one of the best movies.
I don’t have a specific favorite national anthem, but I will take this opportunity to recommend the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra’s renditions of every national anthem (plus a few regional and historical ones), which was one of the main things that started my interest in national anthems. A few countries have changed their national anthems since it’s release, but it’s mostly up to date.
The Welsh anthem is wonderful - the Welsh are famed as singers anyway, and it’s a joy hearing them belt it out.
I’m Danish so clearly I’m biased in saying this: Danish national anthem. Mainly because
- almost every Dane knows the lyrics (of at least the first verse)
- it’s quite some chill lyrics about Danish nature and the people here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbUy6-1WCHE
National anthem of Denmark will for the foreseeable future be linked with xenophobia and nationalism for me, which seems quite high in Denmark. Puts a sour taste on it for sure, sadly.
Not Australia’s. Sounds like a fucking dirge. Can we not have something by INXS?
The URSS, then Russia (the soviet lyrics are better tbh) then Turkey.
Which Mario game is this from?
Unironically, the Soviet Union. I’ve herd that anthem a thousand times as a joke, but you know, it kinda slaps.
Obviously I’m just talking about the arrangement and music because I’ve no idea what the lyrics mean.
The first version of lyrics was written after WWII and changed twice already. First to remove references to Stalin and then again to remove references to Soviet Union. All 3 versions were written by the same guy.
I’m sure the lyrics are sane and not at all unhinged
Honestly, for an anthem, they’re pretty tame.
Nah East germany beats it with the lyrics
It is used as the Russian anthem too, which is currently unfortunate because it’s amazing.
The tune but not the lyrics, which honestly suck.
