In 2016 they had a coordinated and clear effort to undermine the election and get Hilary in the primary over Bernie. Trump won.

In 2024 they all agreed to not challenge Biden despite serious concerns the ones in the know must have had.

Thats twice now they rolled out the red carpet for trump and in both cases it was to make damn sure their preferred candidate won the primary voters be damned.

It really should be brought up each election because it seems like they really want to keep doing it.

I get downvoted every time I call out establishment liberal dems for things like backtracking on trans rights, etc, in order to entice conservative voters, who will probably never vote for them, based on their so-called effective campaign platform of “Orange man bad,” without any message of changing material conditions for citizens.

Dems willing to compromise in order to get elected and maintain their seats will absolutely join with GOP on issues like trans rights. I don’t know how the “vote blue line” gaslighters can’t comprehend this.

The reason the hold so much responsibility in this is they’re supposed to be the buffer against crazy alt-right fascism, but so many capitulate to it, like Hakeem Jeffries. They should be the ones fighting things like genocide in Gaza. Instead, they take the same AIPAC money, when they could be championing human rights and trying to pull anti-Zionist GOPs towards their direction, not the other way around.

Case in point: Reagancrats and Clinton. Liberal Dems don’t stand up for workers, they just go with the zeitgeist of the times. Because they inside trade and take bribes from special interests, too. They are not pro-worker or pro-social justice, they are pro-status quo.

I believe in voting. Vote! Don’t sit at home. Vote for candidates who are truly leftists and pro-worker and pro-human rights.

What you people don’t understand is that we are at a point now where “voting blue” is a life-or-death vote against fascism. We are WAY past your little purity tests. We are fighting for our lives.

In 2024 when the Russia psyops had all the kids crying gEnOciDE! we lost. And every excuse the non-voting and 3rd party morons had boiled down to- “well, the candidate didn’t jump though my every hoop and meet my demands perfectly, so I stayed home/voted for a loser”.

To simplify what I’m trying to say, if you have cancer- YOU TAKE THE CHEMO! You take the chemo, you get sick, then you hopefully get better and then you beat cancer.

You don’t pass on it just because it will make you sick and you don’t happen to like the idea that your hair will fall out.

You take the chemo so you have a chance to live. End of story.

What you are all doing is essentially fucking over everyone else because your entitlement affords you the luxury of taking a seat when others need you to stand up for them.

(If you voted, then this isn’t entirely about you personally, just those with the ideology that good is the opposite of perfect)

they absolutely do, what they’re wary of is the myriad of other issues that can also be much, much worse under the GOP. Exhibit 1, DJT. Sure go hard at primaries AND keep calling those Dems out but… you’re choosing to hurt everyone else as well by not voting.

Especially when no one in the US pays any attention to women’s sports. All of a sudden, it becomes a big issue when scapegoats are needed to perpetuate the cultural war. 😂

I don’t understand how people devote so much time to staring at sports games on a TV, when you could be enriching your life with family, hobbies or constructive things like meal prepping on Sundays, so one doesn’t have to shove expensive convenience junk from Mondelez, Nestle and Monsanto in their mouths during the week.

“Uncomfortable” does not mean “is an important voting issue”. There are policy questions that would affect people’s lives that have much greater support in left-inclined voters that get disregarded because “people only care about kitchen table issues”.

Republicans care about this because there’s a constant culture war being pushed by their propaganda to distract from everything else being unpopular and it’s all they have left. The guy who leans Democratic and is uncomfortable has other things that matter to him. When it comes to voting and vibes, most Republicans probably do too.

I think one point of the article is that progressive and leftist candidates have the odds stacked against them by the party itself. We see this repeating now for candidates like Angie Nixon. The silver lining is that leftist candidates are 10x better because they have to be in order to win.

The Dems cheat heavily in the primaries. As someone who votes in them and pays attention to the minutia of rule changes and who’s in the bureaucracy, I know. The most obvious cheating was with Bernie in 2016, if you feel like learning about this fact.

When it comes to your false equivalency about the tea party, what you’re leaving out is money.

See, the Pubs cheat in primaries too. Normally, the tea party would never have gained power. What got the tea party to the position where they could take over, was billions and billions and billions of dollars in funding, over decades.

Can you think of some hundred billionaires who’d like to donate heavily to the long-term goal of destroying their own power? Then we could easily take over the Democratic party in only the span of a generation. Without the billions, forget about it. There is a buy-in to go to war.

The fact that you don’t know any of this, brings into focus why you believe as you do. I love your passion. We need your passion fighting the right things at the right times. So you’d benefit us all and yourself if you looked into everything I’m saying.

Vote, vote in primaries, but neither will fix the issue so you should be doing other things too, and definitely not attacking allies as if they’re simply not trying hard enough to bang their heads against a brick wall.

Your attitude makes the whole viewpoint you espouse, look puerile and foolish. Not only are you not converting anyone, you are actively driving people from your cause. Which I can only assume now is your goal.

After 2016, the DNC got sued and stated in court that they are a private entity that does not have to abide by their primary results, that their primaries are just for show. It’s part of the public record.

There is plenty of other information for you to find on the 2016 DMC shenanigans leading up to that court case, but you come of as terribly disingenuous. So this pointer in the right direction is all the labor you’ll get from me.

Leftists do vote in the primaries. They vote more then centrists do. That’s not in doubt. The question is how we are supposed to handle the traitors. What do you do with snakes that hide their colors during the primary, but then betray the base during the general? You could say, “just vote for the traitor now, and vote them out next primary,” but that’s tone-deaf advice. First it rewards traitors. Second, when the next election comes around, suddenly the same exact people telling you “wait til the next primary” change their tune to “we can’t give up an incumbent seat in Ohio, this primary challenge is irresponsible!”

For liberals, there simply is never a proper time to punish libshit dems that betray their voters.

I 100% did not. That’s why my comment was in the form of a question. Because I couldn’t, and still can’t, imagine what a primary 10 years ago has to say about our current landscape that wouldn’t be better understood through recent campaigns like Mamdani’s, el-Sayed’s, and pre-scandal Platner’s. Or if we need to examine losses, any of the times when the progressive got boxed out. Bernie had an entire second run between now and then.

The reason they frame it with Bernie is not because Bernie’s run is more demonstrative of important current dynamics, it’s because it’s the progressive lost Lost Cause that will get clicks. Or in my case, not get clicks because literally everything that needs to be said about that election has already been said. Because it was 10 fucking years ago and people have been talking about it repeatedly for a literal decade.

        The DNC fucked over Bernie.

The primary voters voted for Hillary over Bernie, even before the superdelegates became relevant at the convention.

        Both can be true.

Regardless of all the shenanigans with the superdelegates, I highly doubt that the DNC would have nominated Hillary if Bernie had actually won the primaries.

Voters could have seen through the DNC shenanigans and chose Bernie, but they didn’t.

It’s the same with all the dark money corporate contributions… Does it influence the result? The data surely shows that it does, but voters still have the choice to NOT let that dark money spending influence their decision.

All of that stuff in the book was more or less out in the open and publicity known during the primary campaign. Leftists and progressives could have registered to vote in the primary, and if they had none of the fuckery would have amounted to anything. But they didn’t and Hillary got nearly double the votes Bernie did. Also Bernie isn’t a democrat, everybody ignores this, of course the democratic party would favor an actual democrat for their nomination, but I digress. If leftists and progressives actually voted he’d have won, but they didn’t, and it wasn’t remotely close.

That’s not quite true. Joe Biden got double the votes Bernie did in 2020, but in 2016 HRC only beat him with a 12% margin, which is still millions of votes but not double.

So the thesis statement is not driven by actual political analysis but is from a biased source about the only event that would make him relevant in a discussion of politics? Man, if only the title or post text had told me that I would have not-clicked twice as hard.

Next up on my not-reading list, Harris’s campaign strategists talking about how their strategy was actual great and people should listen to them about politics. And that’s a group actually involved in a recent election. Bernie had a whole second campaign with a different strategist since the one with that guy. And during that campaign this guy wasn’t involved and had to throw in with Andrew Yang instead.

I do not care about your opinion on an article you haven’t read

My point here has never been defending the article. It’s that you shouldn’t make wrong assumptions based on headlines and comment based on those. It’s bad form

The very existence and sharing of this article is a waste of time. The context that it’s from the last person in the world who would give such a thesis value and in promotion of a book just makes it worse not better. My assumptions were kinder than they would have been otherwise.

Your comment saying who the author is is literally the only comment in this entire post that references the content of this specific article. Every single other comment is a generic commentary on politics, rehashed arguments about Sanders’ primary run, or meta comments. Which is more evidence of its worthlessness. So I don’t care that you don’t care and you can tut tut about correct form to someone who has a reason to seek your approval.

Since they’re still beating the dead horse I’ve got something different to say:

Bernie Sanders lost the primaries by Millions of votes. Not Thousands, Not Hundreds of Thousands, but Millions.

He wasn’t even a DNC member and he got invited in the first place.

Sure, but he was already losing by an overwhelming majority before anyone voted. Hillary had something like 40 delegates already.

        Edit: 360 delegates, actually.

And if all the Bernie supporters had actually registered and voted in the primary they could have changed that, but they didn’t. Bernie supporters not voting for Bernie in the primary are the main cause of Bernie losing.

So you’re saying that if Bernie started with 40 more delegates that MILLIONS more people would have voted for him instead? Fat chance, pal.

What fuckin fair? It may be bullshit but it’s a private party, literally, and they didn’t need to let Bernie run at all, but they did. Quit moving the goalposts. The facts remain no matter what the DNC did or didn’t do Bernie lost the primary, overwhelmingly, because nobody voted for him.

If you want me to come up with a reason why the person who receives millions more votes should become the representative then clearly you oppose democracy and idgaf about your opinion on anything.

Being chosen by the people is what is fair.

Popular vote: HRC: 16,917,853 Bernie: 13,210,550
                  Percentage: 55.2%, 43.1%

We’ve been discussing how Bernie lost the popular vote this entire time. It was a brutal defeat where he was 2 digit percent margin. Even worse, in 2020 he lost to Joseph Biden when Biden literally doubled his vote.

Indeed. Considering her performance in the primary, I was certain she was going to win the general. I was so sure, in fact, that I did a little oopsie and forget to vote. Happens to us all, right?

    Oh come the fuck on.

It’s been a decade at this point. Bernie lost because he had fewer votes than a former First Lady, and senator who has been a part of the party for decades.

Bernie lost because, in his entire tenure in the senate, he didn’t want to join the team. He sat off on the sidelines (voting with the democrats but not being a part of the apparatus), and then decided he wanted to be the captain of the football team.

Did the super delegates favor the establishment choice? Yeah. They favored her over the guy who joined the party that summer to run for president. Is this really that surprising to people?

It’s been a fucking decade. If online liberals put half as much energy into organizing that they did complaining about Bernie losing then trump would never have been fucking elected in the first place.

You’d have a much better point if Hillary didn’t proceed to lose against the man who went on to become the most inept President at time of writing.

You seriously don’t think that they would also have attacked Bernie? Cmon.

I’d say it’s actually more embarrassing than that.

2016 he was caught by surprise that black voters in the south preferred the centrist candidate.

2020 the same thing happened to him and he did absolutely nothing to shore up that weakness. He learned nothing. He even got lucky at the start with the field of centrists splitting the vote, but eventually they sorted their strategy out and beat him.

Bernie just has the worst goddamn campaign instincts. I remeber hearing his campaign staff were all people who got rejected from the Obama 08 campaign, and instances where his door to door knockers would try to argue with anyone who said they weren’t voting for Bernie.

Add in that he endorsed Graham Platner, it’s clear he just never had the juice.

Bernie is the prototypical idealist. He says the right things, but because of his inability to actually compromise he does nothing.

He’s been a meek politician at best, who says the right thing. The downvotes on here just prove my point. The truth is hard to look in the face. And the people who sat at home are just as fucking guilty as the people who voted for trump.
