    Pedantry:

I can buy all the drinks I want at a bar. I’m just not allowed to consume them myself.

No bar is going to eject someone just because they’re buying drinks for other people.

They don’t kick you out for buying too much though…they kick you out because you’re an asshole who is annoying everyone else or outright endangering them.

I know that in my state there are laws against over serving. As in, bartenders can actually be liable if someone is over served and then go out and get a DUI or something. It is, imo, fairly ridiculous.

I have no ideas if the law are the same in every state, but this is incorrect where i am. These laws specifically create liability for a person who serves a drink to a person who is obviously intoxicated. In a bar. It’s obviously puritan-minded bullshit, but the laws do exist, establishments with liquor licenses are required to train employees on them, and people have gotten sued or even prosecuted for them.

My point exactly! This is a function of being drunk and how a person acts. It has nothing to do with how much they buy. Come in and drop 100k (hyperbolic number) in “rounds for everybody!” Without drinking anythijg yourself and they’ll never throw you out or cut you off.

To assign blame, you ask the question “Who could have prevented this?” If a bartender knows that a person has had too much to drink and that they are going to drive, they are aware of the danger that person poses and are therefore required to prevent that danger.

Bars can definitely cut you off without you being an ass.

But what’s funny is that where I live, they can’t refuse to sell to pregnant women.

They will never cut you off for “buying too much”, it’s always related to their behavior and never the fact they purchase a lot.

That’s not strictly true. In some places the bartender can be held criminally liable if they over serve and the patron gets into a crash and kills someone, so even if you aren’t causing issues you can be cut off.

I think the chemicals that kill them are also what makes them loyal customers. Bit of a double edged sword situation.

It’s the nicotine that makes them loyal customers. Cigarette companies could very well do without the lead, tar, cadmium, arsenic, and radiation.

Nah, they add a bunch of shit to enhance the addictive properties of nicotine. Nicotine on its own is about as addicting (and harmful) as caffeine.

The delivery system has a lot to do with it too. There’s a reason vaping is so much more effective at quitting smoking than nicotine patches/gum/lozenges.

I had a roommate get kicked out for falling asleep for like 30 seconds. He had only had one beer at that point, but he was fresh off a 12h shift.

Your pubs are clearly a lot stricter than ours. If you are capable of buying without making a scene you clearly haven’t had too much yet.
