When I was in fourth grade, in the morning, we would sit and listen to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” from an old tape deck in lieu reciting of the pledge. It felt more meaningful, and I suppose that’s why our teachers chose it as the daily patriotic ritual.

I like to think someone like Lee who possesses the heart of a musician that could create so much meaning in song, perhaps just can’t see past his own career, or through the thin veneer of simplistic patriotism, or that he simply can’t turn down his fans or an adoring crowd. He certainly doesn’t seem to be short on cash, and he performs at Trump events for free (which is probably why Trump likes him). And, he doesn’t seem to have the angry, bitter, and resentful spirit that has gripped the modern conservative movement.

Just what the hell is it that can make people blissfully embrace what Trump claims to represent while somehow letting the very real horror of what he does pass right through them?

EDIT: I suppose Trump ruining childhoods shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. :/

      He’s dumb as rock.

The lyrics to the chorus of his signature song are “I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free.”

Not “…in America, where…”, which would make grammatical sense.

I feel like I remember watching something about him on Some More News, or Last Week Tonight and how he’s always been a bit of an asshole under it all and is always willing to make a quick buck.

      He’s 83 years old.

If you’ve ever been around 83 year olds, you’ll know they’re eager to perform any old song from their youth at any random time. They also have no intention of understanding any of contemporary politics, customs or even the current situation.

I love that about music. It’s the first thing we learn and the last thing we forget.

Media criticism: All of these would also work — “Embarrassing Shambles as All acts for trump backed celebration publicly cancel”

"All acts for Freedom250 make scathing posts cancelling their appearance, once they learn Trumps involvement. No choice but to scrap the mess. "

"The net is now making meme Posters showing acts crossed out, that have cancelled their Freedom250 performance, over the presidents involvement. WH gives up and cancels. "

What’s the difference? They put 4547 accurately in the interaction - the Performers used agency, not 4547. 4547 is the lower, the acted-upon. The rephrasing chosen - often makes 4547 the ‘actor’ the ‘agent’ - when he is not. It continues a subtle myth that 4547 is the protagonist in the daily story they tell. This only helps him. It is a very subtle, but it makes it very difficult for those still caught in the lie, to see it.
