One of the guys at work is retiring and the site we’re using the put together a card from all of us offered to write something for us. I had to click it to find out what it would say (before obviously removing it and writing something real).

So bloody dystopian.

I used to manage people in an IT department. When doing mandatory quarterly written performance reviews, the form where I was supposed to enter my feedback had a “Generate with AI” button that would scrape their self assessment, parrot it back, and then fabricate utter bullshit and fake accomplishments to sound like board room candy. We are so screwed.

The company I work for recently mandated that we must start using AI in all of our daily tasks. One of the very first things I did with it was have it write my yearly self assessment for me. Management is just gonna do the same shit, so why shouldn’t we?

Yeah, it sucks, but malicious compliance is always relevant. Good on you for fighting back.

Now that technology has taken care of all the tedious burdens like creating art and music, learning, writing, and having sincere feelings, I have so much more time in my life for things that really matter: doomscrolling, trying to come up with new hobbies so I can turn them into side-hustles, fighting with underpaid call center employees who represent whatever subscription service is fucking me over that day, ingesting as many advertisements as possible, and filling out form versions of my resume that no one will ever read for jobs I do not want.

I’ll never use AI for personal communications. In fact, were I a manager I’d keep a close eye on people who do. Why would I want someone on my team that lacks the creativity to at least try to write a quick blurb? Doesn’t even have to be good, but creativity is important in all endeavors.

It kind of reminds me of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Order of the Day for D-Day.

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.
