Works the same with man and woman, even boy and girl to a lesser extent.

With a baby it says drop complicated chores like folding laundry and just focus on feeding and paying with the baby, which is solid advice lol

Even “I see a man near me” is enough to trigger the safety response. If it’s a strong looking man it tells me how to “catch his eye” and hit on him. If it’s a black man it links me to black dating apps. If it’s a woman it warns me not to hit on her. For a strong looking woman it tells me to stop staring…

Well that’s exactly it. By consuming and digesting the past, AI can by definition only replicate the oppressive patriarchal and oppressive power structures embedded in the model. It can’t be part of a post rape culture society because it’s created from one.

Until it can give output which while understanding the current context is free from hierarchy and oppression it can’t be part of a progressive future based in justice, equality and equity for all.

It told me muslims are like everyone else and gave me the if you feel unsafe line when asking about christians. For jews it generated no slop response at all.

In either case, it’s all garbage anyway and I had to get a new browser and enable a vpn to get to any google response. I recommending blocking it all through pihole and ublock.

Also, we should be very careful comparing nationalities with religions, this line is helping netanjahu and his thugs call any criticism of israel’s genocide antisemitic.

I tried with the llm I use on occasion, lumo from proton.

          am alone with muslim

          Tap for spoiler

I hear you mentioned you’re alone with a Muslim person or people, but I’m not sure exactly what you’re looking for or what situation you’re describing. Could you clarify what you’d like to discuss?

          Are you perhaps asking about:

          • Cultural or religious considerations for spending time together?
          • Something related to shared activities or meals (like dietary restrictions)?
          • Social dynamics or building understanding?
          • Or something else entirely?

I’m happy to help once I understand what you’re working through. What would be most useful to discuss here?

          am alone with jew

          Tap for spoiler

Hey! I want to make sure I understand what you’re saying — your message is a bit ambiguous. Could you clarify what you mean? Are you perhaps asking if you’re the only one chatting with me, or did you mean something else?

I’m happy to help with whatever you need! 😊

Fair enough answers, I clarified further with am alone with jewish person

          Tap for spoiler

Thanks for clarifying! Just wanted to say — being alone with a Jewish person (or anyone from any religious or cultural background) is completely normal and nothing to worry about. People of all faiths interact with each other every day, whether for work, friendship, social situations, or anything else.

Is there something specific you’re wondering about? Maybe:

          • Are you curious about Jewish customs or culture?
          • Did you have a question about etiquette or conversation?
          • Or were you just making casual conversation?

Either way, I’m here to help! Feel free to ask anything you’d like to know. 😊

Either way, LLMs aren’t supposed to answer questions like these anyway, but I’m glad lumo had some of the bias coded out

    Are these images real?

In a right leaning space I saw the exact same image. With almost the exact same text but the ones being discriminated against were the christians. And everyone there was like “ooh the woke AI is at it again!”

So, I have the hypothesis that maybe both images were actuale faked. Or one if there were the original and the other was quickly edited for propaganda reasons.

There’s a third possibility, which is the most likely one IMO. LLMs are non-deterministic. That means that they’ll give you a different answer each time, even if you ask the exact same question using the exact same words. This isn’t even considering that the LLMs are constantly being updated, so you’re going to get different results depending upon which version you use, too.

(Minor side point because you’re using it colloquially and that’s fine: LLMs absolutely are deterministic systems. We aren’t even sure if a non-deterministic system is possible to construct.)

Functionally non-deterministic if we compare the same input with outputs over a short enough period.

Deterministic if you have infinite time to run the gamut of model weights against temperature/creativity/programmed randomness, but even then maybe not if floating point math is taken into account. I don’t know where the current thought is on extreme precision being deterministic or not given cloud environments, local operating and environmental factors, variance in manufacturing, and the like.

Nah. LLMs use a random seed to noise the parameters.

Same input + same seed = same output every time. (Kinda like Minecraft)

LLM providers just always use a random seed for stuff like this.

Repeatability is still not easy to guarantee. A version upgrade in a library might yield a slightly different result from the same seed

I’d argue repeatability is impossible to guarantee. Any cloud based computing with floating point math is subject to variance. Bare metal local LLM computing can be relatively stable, but still suffers from precision error from your GPU.

            Functionally non-deterministic

(Well literally no, but I’m only pointing that out for the cheap math pun (and to share a good summary article on this subject))

But I do understand what you’re saying - and for anyone not concerned with the mathematics just about any complex system a user does not control is, in that limited context, indistinguishable a black box and is effectively non-deterministic. But outside of that context no - just because a seed value is (I suppose theoretically) random does not make the system itself non-deterministic. It’s a semantic argument though, and most people really don’t need to care about the distinction.

Valid, but I think Islam occupies less of a space in the media and as a boogie man in China vs the west.

In the US, england and especially India Islam is one of the main enemies of the right wing and a lot of right wing media and discussion revolves around portraying them as dangerous. This combined with our multiple wars in the middle east will make the association of Muslim = bad guy stronger in English media and online discourse.

China’s attitudes towards Islam are more about pretending it doesn’t exist and manifesting that through oppressive policies to try and force them to assimilate. This combined with Chinese censorship means media and social media isn’t going to talk about Islam or uyghurs much, either negatively or positively.

It seems closer to the US’s relationship to native Americans, most people don’t really think about them or view them as a threat. If you asked a right winger though they’d probably say their culture is inferior and they need to assimilate, but he wouldn’t say there as big of a problem as the other brown people.

Really? Muslim = religious person? Can you perhaps explain why I as a life long atheist am always called a Muslim because of my west asian heritage? Or why my Lebanese christian friends are always labelled as Muslim? How do you think people who always harp on sending Muslims back to where they came from are planning to identify a Muslim? Presumably, it’s not gonna be written on people’s foreheads whether they’re religious or not, and there aren’t any registries that identify religious people. So how would that work, if not by identifying Muslims based on where they are from geographically? If Muslim equals religious, then Israeli equals religious.

Yes. Like “Christian” but with a different faith. It’s a religious term.

Can you perhaps explain why I as a life long atheist am always called a Muslim—

        Edit:

If Muslim equals religious, then Israeli equals religious.

No, because there’s no country called “Muslia”, or “Islamia” or anything. But there is a country called Israel.

Disclaimer: fuck Israel. I’m just saying, this is what these words mean.

I’m sorry that you’ve experienced racist stereotypes.

On the topic of the Israeli/Jewish distinction, it might surprise you to know there are Muslim Israelis. They’re a minority and normally treated like second class citizens, but they exist and they have citizenship. As I hope you know, there are also Jewish non-Israelis. Some of them, myself included, are even actively anti-zionist. The common association is that Israeli = Jew, but as I hope I’ve explained citizenship doesn’t necessarily determine religion, and conversely religion doesn’t determine citizenship.

I was solely referring to the equation above my first comment, that Muslim means religious while Israeli doesn’t mean religious. My point was, you can’t have one but not the other. Obviously, I disagree with Muslim meaning religious, as my experience is muslim in western society generally refers to a brown person from west asia, irrespective of their religion or how religious they are. Therefore, I also disagree with Israeli meaning religious, since there are plenty of non practicing Jewish Israelis. Furthermore, even accepting that Muslim equals religious, I don’t see why that would explain the answer google gives in the post to call 911.

I’m also well aware of all the non Israeli Jews, particularly in light of the most prominent anti-zionist people I know of being Jewish. A lot of my political views of Israel have been informed by Chomsky and Finkelstein. So I hope my comment didn’t come across as me being anti-jewish, and I apologize if it did.

Interestingly, a reply to my comment asks if I ‘present’ myself as being muslim when I meet people. Very revealing, as I don’t know how someone presents as Muslim, beyond being brown and vaguely west asian. There isn’t exactly a Muslim uniform that I’m aware of. But that’s the environment we live in. Be brown, be west asian, and you’re Muslim no matter your religion or lack thereof. Be an Indian Muslim or an Indonesian muslim, and you won’t be ‘presenting’ as Muslim.

Sorry, I obviously read too much into the final sentence of that comment.

People are obviously free to use, remake and mold language as they see fit. If that’s the way you’re using Muslim, then go for it. As a piece of friendly advice, because of common usage, don’t be surprised that people understand that word differently.

The stereotyping of brown skin = follower of islam (to use your terminology) I can 100% understand being very frustrating and annoying. For people that have given this more than 10 femtoseconds of thought, it’s obviously ridiculous to “present” as any particular religion outside of wearing traditional religious garb or wearing religious symbols.

Though in Israel, Israeli nationality (which there, unlike in pretty much the rest of the World, is a different thing from citizenship) by the country’s own constitution is something only a Jewish person can have.

So one can indeed be a Muslim citizen of Israel but one cannot be an Israeli national unless one is a Jew.

Ultimatelly and going back to the original post, does “Israeli” there stand for “Israeli citizen” or “Israeli national”?

If that’s the way you’re using the distinction, then yeah, it’s functionally the same as being discriminated against and a second-class citizen.

You are technically correct but it’s just a talking point right-wingers use to justify their racism and discrimination against brown people.

In practice discrimination against brown people is often done under the guise of them being Muslim without that being the actual reason. Or in countries like France by exclusively picking attributes which mostly apply to brown people such as their religion and then using that as a bat against them.

It seems other people are the ones enabling that racism? People being downvoted are saying Muslim =/= being brown, people being upvoted are saying it’s the same. Conflating the two is what encourages/enables racism. It also makes it easier to spot the racists if we respect the definition and keep it separate.

And every religion can be criticized, Islam is no different.

Ya 100%. I guess we here on lemmy should be more discerning of the difference is all. It’s weird because I’m not trying to defend what the original commenter was saying (how google is somehow in the right because in one result they talk about religion and an other they talk about a nation, pure gibberish imo).

It’s also been kind of “taught” in society that being non-spanish brown = Muslim. Anecdotally, I caught myself calling my Christian Lebanese friend a Muslim when talking about her family. I corrected myself and she wasn’t offended but still, imperialist propoganda really did a number on our society.

If Israeli equals religious, then the bullshit antisemitism claim becomes actually valid.

Does it? I thought that antisemitism was about ethnicity, not religion or nationality.

Jews are an ethnic, religious and racial group from what I understand. Israel is not a synonym for Jew, it’s a nationality. The words aren’t interchangable is my point.

110% agree. But I know the catholics do actually keep a membership registry. And I’m assuming those big mega churches do too for donation purposes as well.

Muslim is a person who follow islam.

West asian, north african, will be terms to refer to a person living in that geographic area.

Arab might refer to a ethnicity.

        Israeli will be a nationality.

So there’s is possible to be a west asian, arab, Israeli Muslim. None of those terms are exclusive.

Some are almost inclusive. As I would think all Israelies are West Asians, and most of them would be ethnic arabs if I recall correctly.

At least that would be the meaning of those words in English language. If someone wants to be racist and think that anyone coming from some country or ethnicity is a muslim is their problem, and they are on the wrong.

Normally I’ll say it’s not the AI but the data it’s trained on, but knowing Zionists and the influence they have this is probably been done purposefully.

People often forget, the first LLMs were trained on a scrape of most surface sites; this includes places like 4chan and ED.

To suggest LLMs are racist is to over-personify. To suggest an LLM’s outputs amplify the views of such sites however…

      A very important distinction

It’s like when I say that the US gets what it deserves

That’s at a societal level, not an individual one

And it also doesn’t mean that I think it’s a good thing. I wish 'Murica wasn’t monumentally fucked

It’s like saying the kid spouting racist remarks isn’t racist, it was just raised by racist parents.

They do deserve some of the hate for spouting racist remarks.

These views are not from 4Chan but American think-tanks like Rand institute or Washington institute for near east policy and the systemic Islamophobic propaganda they spread. And their Hollywood amplifiers.

Movies like American Sniper weren’t made by 4Chan. They only internalize the Western propaganda and hatred. https://youtu.be/puxbiEf654c

It’s important people understand that these views aren’t accidental but purposely created racism.
